Hi! My name is Sam and I am an Aussie girl currently living in Newcastle. I live with my high school sweetheart of 14 years. We have been married for the last four. We share our home with a silver tabby cat called Prada (I take complete responsibility for the name) and another cat called Sophie. Our yard is shared with a flock of ducks and a pair of chooks.
I first began sewing during high school. I hated it. During sewing class a friend and I would hide in the trimmings room adjacent to our classroom. It would always be a good half an hour before our teacher would notice us missing, and this realisation was quickly followed by her bursting through the trimming room door and yelling at us as we ran back to our sewing machines. During the times we would actually stay in the classroom, I would often make stupid sewing mistakes. I remember once painstakingly hand stitching something together, only to get up when the bell rang to find the item sewn to my school skirt. Ugh! My mum generously purchased me a sewing machine in the hope that I would 'pick up' some of the skills I was supposed to be learning in the class.
~ 8 year passed ~
Then one day I decided I wanted to sew a quilt. A basic quilt made from large squares of floral fabric. I found my old sewing machine sitting at the back of my wardrobe, dusted it off, and sewed. I have not looked back since (thanks again for the machine mum!).
At age 21 I became a 'quilter'. I was mad about quilts. I was buying quilting magazines, planning projects, and started my first blog on the My Quilt Blog website. I made a few projects, mostly gifts, but became increasingly frustrated by how long it took to complete a quilt (I was insisting on hand quilting them all).
I floundered with my sewing for a while, until I discovered dressmaking. It was blogspot that did it. I began to 'discover' fellow sewer's blogs and was becoming more aware of dressmaking as a skill. I became very interested in the idea of making my own clothes and would read dressmaking blogs with wide, captivated eyes. Finally I bit the bullet and signed up for a three hour class called "Make a dress in a day". Needless to say the dress was not finished at the end of the three hour class, but boy was I hooked!
Since then I now call myself a recreational seamstress, and am discovering a love of vintage fashion.
My blog is named after the road I lived on with my grandparents in England.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, I am so glad you stopped by!
